What’s new

What’s new in CadVex

New features, improvements and fixes in CadVex Desktop and CadVex Cloud, newest first.

3 October 2026 — CadVex Desktop 0.2.0 for Windows and Mac

  • Improved: Desktop runs the same DFM engine as CadVex Cloud, so findings, highlights and estimates match between the two.
  • Improved: The 3D viewer uses no processor or graphics power while you are not interacting with the model.
  • Fixed: Desktop no longer signs you out unexpectedly, including when you quit the app.
  • Fixed: Mac: Desktop no longer leaves processes running in the background after it closes, even when started from the installer window, and it offers to move itself to your Applications folder.

2 October 2026 — A more accurate DFM engine

  • Improved: Pockets, slots and grooves are recognized from their walls and named for what they are (pocket, open or closed slot, through cutout, OD groove), and features that were missed or misread on real parts are now found.
  • Improved: Corner, hole and wall checks are more accurate: corner radius is judged against pocket depth, holes from their nearest open end, and walls that taper to a knife edge are flagged. A corner the cutter will leave with its own radius is shown as a note, not priced work.
  • New: New checks for tall thin walls, multiple separate bodies in one file, sharp feather edges and internal grooves. If DFM cannot run on a part you still get the cost estimate.
  • Improved: Every DFM finding highlights exactly what it is about, on the 3D model and in the quote’s DFM report. The machining-access finding shows the volume a straight cutter cannot reach.
  • Improved: Estimates account for tilted features: a hole or pocket at an angle to every part axis adds its own setup on the 3-axis route.

27 September 2026 — CadVex Desktop 0.1.0 for Windows and Mac

  • New: CadVex Desktop for Windows (64-bit) and Mac (Apple Silicon): the same analysis, DFM, estimating and quoting as CadVex Cloud, on your own computer, so CAD files stay in your shop during analysis.
  • New: One CadVex account and shop for both Cloud and Desktop. The 30-day Desktop evaluation starts when you first activate the app, not when you sign up or download.
  • Fixed: Cloud: the cost-change summary shows material and scrap prices in the right unit, and if saving fails you can keep editing or discard your changes.
  • Fixed: Mac: an updated installer fixes first activation getting stuck on the account loading screen on some Macs.

25 September 2026 — Quote statistics and multi-quantity quotes

  • New: Statistics for any period, including custom dates: total quotes, win rate, value won, open pipeline and parts quoted, with a sortable customer table and breakdowns by material and process.
  • Improved: When a quote has several quantities, each quantity is its own line and the total adds them all, on screen and in the PDF.
  • Improved: Quote templates: place line-item fields by dragging them onto the first row, and the DFM report starts on a new page after the commercial pages.
  • Fixed: CadVex Cloud no longer signs you out during a brief service interruption.

21 September 2026 — Accurate totals and DFM in quotes

  • Improved: Each extra quantity on a quote is priced on its own, with repeat-part savings worked out for that quantity.
  • Improved: Costs, quote lines, tax, totals and awarded values add up to the cent everywhere, including the quote PDF.
  • Improved: When you add DFM feedback to a quote you can pick individual findings, and each keeps its picture in the PDF, also when regenerated from Quote History.
  • Fixed: Thread selection on large or complex parts offers every eligible face.

3 September 2026 — CadVex Cloud opens to every shop

  • New: CadVex Cloud is open to every machine shop, with five free part analyses and no card needed.
  • New: After the free analyses you pay only for parts that are analyzed successfully; failed or cancelled analyses are never charged.
  • New: A Home page shows your free analyses or current usage, and Settings has a Billing page for your payment method and current period.

3 September 2026 — Threads, tolerances and finishes in the estimate

  • New: Pick threaded holes on the 3D model, confirm each thread specification, and the threads are priced in the estimate.
  • New: Tight tolerances add machining and inspection time based on how tight they are and how many locations they apply to.
  • Improved: Surface-finish costing scales with the finished area at the right machine rate; very fine finishes ask you to enter the time.
  • New: Choose metric or imperial units for your shop, with inch stock sizes in the stock catalog.
  • New: Mark which quote lines a customer awarded you and track the value you won.
  • Improved: Larger quantities get a batch-efficiency reduction on repeatable machining time, set to automatic, custom or none.
  • Improved: Stock selection suggests tube for parts with a centered through-bore, and through-cutouts in plate parts are priced as profile cuts.
  • Fixed: DFM no longer reports special-tool features such as dovetails, T-slots and internal grooves as unreachable.

20 July 2026 — Unit prices for added quantities

  • Improved: When you add another quantity to a quote line, its unit price is calculated from the estimate.

16 July 2026 — Materials, quantities and faster analysis

  • New: 55 starter materials, plus Other with your own price per kilogram.
  • New: Add several quantities of the same part to a quote, and pick saved customers as you type.
  • New: Quotes can include a shipping line and your own comment on each DFM item.
  • Improved: Large parts analyze faster.
  • Fixed: Cosmetic threads no longer cause false thin-wall warnings, and switching material after analysis gives the same estimate as choosing it before.
  • Fixed: CadVex works on company networks that blocked it before.

14 July 2026 — CadVex Cloud private beta

  • New: CadVex Cloud opens as an invite-only private beta: upload STEP parts and drawings into an RFQ, get feature detection, DFM feedback and an editable cost estimate, and produce a quote PDF.
  • New: Analysis History, Quote History with statistics, stock inventory, a quote template wizard and team invitations.
  • New: Material, threads, tolerances, finish and part number are read from PDF drawings, and quotes can include a DFM report with 3D pictures.
